This document is prepared for the My Study Australia website by the Australian Eduction Connection (AEC) to assist students pursuing full degrees (Bachelors, Masters, PhDs)

Note however, that there is some information that is relevant for semester and year abroad students e.g. the Gilman Scholarships. So please keep reading.

Some universities do offer scholarships for their international students. These scholarships are however, limited. When considering scholarships, note the following:

  • There are few scholarships offered by universities for international students.
  • Most scholarships on offer to international students relate to research based programs (Masters and PhDs); very few universities offer scholarships for undergraduate and even other programs such as semester and year abroad study.
  • The main scholarship for international students at Australian universities is referred to `The International Postgraduate Research Scholarship’ (IPRS) and is funded by the Australian Government through individual university scholarship departments. It is therefore, important that once you know which university interests you and you are undertaking postgraduate research, you look up the `scholarship’ section on the university’s website. This scholarship program is set up to attract top researchers to Australian universities. If you apply through the AEC, make sure your scholarship application is also included with your application for study at the university. Or, let the AEC know that you will be sending the scholarship application in separately.
  • Some universities may have scholarships which are very specific to certain discipline areas e.g. Architecture or Engineering. Therefore, when you apply for a full degree program at an Australian or New Zealand university through the AEC, make sure you check out your scholarship options. If in doubt, email the AEC.

To summarize: Information on each university’s scholarship program is listed on the university’s web site.  Where an Australian or New Zealand university offers a scholarship for international students, download the scholarship application forms and complete them along with the application for admission to the university and send all these documents to the AEC program.  (Remember if you apply to the university direct via their online application system, the AEC cannot help with your application processing. In order for the AEC to assist you through the admission and arrival process, the AEC must lodge the application on your behalf. There is no cost to you for using the AEC program. If in doubt email the AEC at enquiries@mystudyaustralia.com )
