Housing Options – What’s available? Can the AEC guarantee housing?

There are usually a number of on-campus housing options available at the Host University. Where an on-campus housing option is not possible, off campus housing arrangements are made for all AEC students.

There are also off campus options available for dorm style, shared apartment housing and even family home stay. The AEC will work with you in arranging the best possible option for you, based on the types of housing available. In all cases, the AEC will guarantee housing subject to students meeting House Application deadlines!

Our aim is to ensure flexibility so we work with your budget. Not every student wants a serviced apartment with every conceivable option if it costs more. We understand this and we will work with students to ensure as best as we can that we are able to provide housing based on preferences. We are however, not able to do the impossible. For example, don’t wait until the last moment to complete the housing instructions the AEC has sent you and then expect your top preference. This is simply not possible, unless you do want the option of paying more money for housing.
How do I pay for housing?

The AEC will advise you of your housing cost and you or your Home School (if you are being paid through Financial Aid), can pay direct to the overseas University, Housing provider or through the AEC. The AEC remains flexible and will work with students and their Home Schools.

Anything else I should know?

Please be aware that whilst the AEC will identify as many options as possible, the AEC has to balance the need of individual students with what is available in the open market particularly in major capital cities like Sydney and at what cost.

Unless you notify the AEC that you specifically want to stay with a particular friend also going on the AEC program, the AEC attempts to find you housing which offers wherever possible, opportunities for mingling with Australian and other international students.

As a program, the AEC is mindful that not all students are alike; some have specific needs; some cannot afford the straight out "one size fits all" requirements for housing. Therefore, the AEC provides complete flexibility. Where a student cannot afford say, a housing package with meals on campus, the AEC will endeavor to find lower cost housing perhaps 20-30 minutes away from campus but providing a lower cost opportunity. The AEC realizes that for some students, study abroad is not a possibility without a flexible program that permits its students to choose its services based on budget. Housing is one item where the AEC does have flexibility.
