TONY BARRETT Director - Campus Coordination
Tony retired from the Australian Public Service after nearly 20 years in management positions. His work included the training of staff in preservation techniques so that heritage materials of significance to Australia could be saved or stored for future generations of Australians. Tony has traveled extensively in his personal and professional life. He has visited many places in Asia including conducting official visits to Vietnam, Japan and China. He studied the techniques of preserving heritage film and as part of his earlier professional work attended international film preservation workshops. Through a government grant he was able to visit archives/preservation facilities in most countries in Western Europe, Hungary and the USA. At a personal level, he has contributed much to the lives of international students in Canberra Australia by having regular functions at his home - he still networks with international students who have left Australia and gone on to bigger and better things in their home countries. On a Saturday morning it was typical for Tony to be teaching an international student to drive in the parking areas of either the Australian National University or the University of Canberra! Such tasks were his personal contribution to the Canberra Council of Overseas Students in the 1980s and the early 1990s. After his early retirement from the APS, Tony began to assist with the development of the AEC image in North America. Having been a public servant in Australia for the major part of his professional life he has a vast knowledge of Australia, how Australia engages with the international community and what Australia has to offer international students. Tony manages AEC participation at study abroad fairs and AEC relationships with North American schools and advisers. He usually participates in study abroad fairs for the AEC and talks to individual students, parents and study abroad advisors. |
ALDA NIMMO Academic Director
Alda has worked over 20 years in public schools in the State of Florida and holds a Doctoral from Florida International University. Besides her input into the AEC, Alda also teaches English to college students. She has presented papers at education conferences and traveled internationally to the far corners of the globe. Having worked with students from inner city schools in Miami, Alda has a real appreciation for the role international education can and should play in providing students of all socio- economic backgrounds an equal opportunity to study abroad. As a small program, she believes the AEC is well structured to take on the challenges that bring direct enrolment opportunities in study abroad to students who are struggling to find money to finance their studies abroad. She is steadfast in that commitment. Alda contributes to the policy decisions of the organizations, overseas subject selection and transfer of credit issues. |
