Why Australia or New Zealand?

Why should Australia or New Zealand be considered a study abroad destination? Both countries are part of the English speaking world and offer high quality education systems - academic standards at universities are world renowned. Universities are monitored by the respective governments and qualifications are also readily acceptable overseas. Both these countries have been receiving international students and sending their own students abroad for a very long time and there are graduates with Australian or NZ qualifications in most parts of the world today. Students from all round the world come to study in Australia and NZ. Both countries are strategically well placed within the Asia Pacific Rim and provide North American students far greater opportunities than just study abroad or an academic period abroad. Other opportunities include tours, travel and internship opportunities while studying.

By world standards, Australia and NZ can be considered as safe destinations where students feel right at home.

Universities in Australia/NZ offer a full curriculum including a wide range of subjects that are unique to the individual countries – in Australia Marine Biology, Environmental Studies, Australian Studies, etc. and in NZ Maori Studies/Indigenous Studies, Cultural Studies, Marine Biology, Environmental Sciences are again popular subject areas. North American students wanting to pursue Semester and Year Abroad programs can choose their subjects based on home university requirements and their career paths. Importantly, most US universities allow students on Federal and State financial aid and loans to continue receiving their aid while studying at an Australian/NZ university. The AEC facilitates the various processes in relation to admission, including matters related to subject selection.
